As a foreigner who stayed in NZ for only 3 years, talking about what makes NZ unique as a country is probably more like a show of ignorance than an expression of worthy opinion
But it's worthy trying though, at least this is what I think
All Black, Lord of the ring, Anti-nuclear¡¡
Everything I mentioned above represent NZ's great achievements, from sport, culture to people.
But I could hardly agree that these are where NZ's greatness lies
Products, whether material, spirital or cultural, are imitable.
Yet there is one thing that no country on the planet could change----their geographic position.
New Zealand is far from Europe, North America. She is almost isolated geographically.
But I think this is what all New Zealanders should be proud of----
Despite NZ's relatively isolated geographic position, she is still one of the most developed country in the world, she is still a liberal democracy, she is still open and prosper, finally, she is still the home of All black, Peter Jackson.
In the Southern Hemisphere, only New Zealand achieved this. Australia has plenty of land and resources, it has a far better geographic postion, but NZ does Not.
Being in the Southern Hemisphere itself is a great challenge, if you look at a world map, yet NZers have meet those challenges and NZ is continuing her success.
